Central Alabama has three weekends before school starts. Just named Alabama’s Attraction of the Year by Alabama Tourism, your Zoo has plenty of things to bring more summer fun, including axolotls and dinosaurs.
Axolotls on Habitat starting July 22
Get ready for a new popular habitat at your Birmingham Zoo – Axolotls!
Public Opening: The habitat will open to the public on Wednesday, July 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
What is an Axolotl?
Graceful, mysterious, and unlike any other creature on Earth, the axolotl is one of nature’s most extraordinary wonders. Native to the ancient waterways of Mexico, this rare amphibian spends its entire life underwater, distinguished by its delicate, feathery gills and remarkable ability to regenerate limbs, organs, and even parts of its brain. A symbol of resilience and renewal, the axolotl continues to captivate scientists and nature lovers alike.
Though celebrated around the world, the axolotl is critically endangered in the wild. Its story is a powerful reminder that even the most extraordinary species depend on our care and commitment to thrive. The Birmingham Zoo’s new axolotl habitat honors this remarkable animal while inspiring guests to discover its beauty, appreciate its rarity, and help ensure its future for generations to come.
Summer’s Last Roar – July 25 and 26, August 1 and 2
The final two weekends of summer will have everyone going wild before school starts. Dino Safari is ready to help you end summer with a massive ROAR! During the final two weekends of summer, everyone enters for the price of a child ($19, including 10% tax) no matter their age (although under two are always free). The first 75 guests each of those four days will receive a dino egg. Come have one last roar before the school bell rings.
