Daily Activities

Regular Zoo Hours

9am to 5pm: Daily

Please note the below early closings. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause:

  • On May 18, the Children’s Zoo and Nourish 205 will close at 4pm
  • On May 22, the Birmingham Zoo will close at 3pm
  • On June 14, the Children’s Zoo, Nourish 205 and the Gift Shop will close at 4pm
  • On June 16, the Zoo will close at 3pm and reopen for Zoo, Brews and Full Moon BBQ
  • On June 21, Wildburger will close at 4pm

Please note we are closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

Red Diamond Express Train Ride

Protective Life Carousel Rides

Cost: $3.50 plus tax

Take a spin on the Zoo’s animal-themed carousel. There are an array of animals to choose from – a giraffe, rhinoceros, gorilla, cheetah, frog, zebra and many more. Pick your favorite and enjoy the ride!

Goat Walk

9:30am — Every Day

Schaeffer Eye Center Lorikeet Aviary

10:00am - 4:00pm — Every Day

$2 plus tax, weather dependent

Full Moon BBQ Wild Slide

10am - 4:45pm — Every Day

Cost: $3.50 plus tax

Riders must be 4 years of age and 40 inches tall to ride

Predator Zone (Lion Training)

This exciting experience puts you face-to-face with African lions. Watch how the keepers care for the lions during this narrated presentation. Predator Zone features a training area where zookeepers and visitors are on the same level as the animals. See behind-the-scenes training that the keepers conduct on a daily basis to care for the Zoo’s lions.
