These enjoyable and educational classes include live animal demonstrations, interactive discussions, inquiry-based demonstrations and experimentation, hands-on nature exploration, and guided tours of the Zoo. Our program is designed to supplement your home curriculum by creating connections with science and the natural world in an engaging and interactive environment.
While our classes focus primarily on concepts from life science, ecology, and environmental science, we will also incorporate math, engineering, language arts, social studies, art, and Nature Play as appropriate. In each class, we promote 21st Century Skills, including critical thinking, collaboration and teamwork, creativity, imagination, and problem-solving.
Programs will be offered according to the following itinerary for 2023-2024, with several options for when you can register for classes.
1st-2nd; 6th-8th: When registering, your student will attend either all Wednesday sessions OR all Thursday sessions. We will see your student once a month.
3rd-5th: When registering, your student will attend either all Wednesday sessions, all Thursday sessions, OR all Friday sessions. We will see your student once a month.
9th-12th: Classes are only offered on Wednesdays (with some dates on Fridays due to upcoming school breaks). We will see your student once a month.
As an example, if you have one 2nd grader, you may choose to register them to come either every first Wednesday of the month OR they may come every first Thursday of the month. Classes cover the same topic on both days, intended for separate sets of students. During the registration process, you would choose which day of the week you prefer to attend, and you would come to the Zoo for classes only once a month for your student.
