Want to add something special to your trip? Try an educational program! We currently offer Field Experiences where your students and a Zoo Educator can explore specific areas of the Zoo and learn a bit more about our animals. Or if you have older students, check out our Zoo University programs. These programs are 2 hours long and take place in our education classroom and out in the Zoo and feature subjects like Elephant Observation, The Role of Genetics in the Modern Zoo, and more! To find out more about our educational programs click here.
It’s always fun to have lunch at the Zoo! You can bring your lunch and enjoy our picnic tables behind our front gate area or pavilion in the east parking lot area. Tables are first come, first served. You can also pre-order your lunch with us and we’ll do all the work for you! To pre-order your lunch with us, please fill out the lunch section on the “Book your trip here” form or e-mail groups@birminghamzoo.com for more information or assistance. Please note lunches are portioned for preschool and elementary aged children. Lunches are only available to schools and organizations. Family groups are welcome to bring their lunch and eat at our picnic tables or bring money and individually purchase lunch at either of our two restaurants. Click here to see the Zoo’s lunch menu for school groups.
Raising Awareness – Increasing Accessibility – Promoting Inclusive Experience
The Birmingham Zoo is now Sensory Inclusive! In an effort to make the Zoo more welcoming and accessible to individuals with Sensory Processing needs, we have partnered with KultureCity to develop the Sensory Inclusive Zoo Initiative. Look for signs with this logo throughout the Zoo and on the map to identify Quiet Zones, Headphone Zones and locations where weighted lap pads are available for use. A limited number of Sensory Bags are also available for checkout on a first come, first served basis in the Membership Office. These bags contain noise canceling headphones, fidget toys and other resources.
