Visit the Birmingham Zoo for Farm Day

On April 16, the Birmingham Zoo invites the community and their families to take part in Farm Day from 10am until 2pm. This fun-filled educational celebration of Alabama’s farming heritage will be held in the Junior League of Birmingham – Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo. Farm Day is a community-focused event to celebrate the agricultural history of Alabama with a special emphasis on Birmingham Zoo farm animals. The event will feature a variety of activities and booths to educate the public about Alabama’s rural and agricultural heritage. Guests can watch horseshoe making demonstrations, create rural-themed arts and crafts, experience a sheep sheering by Randle Farms staff, learn about the Birmingham Fiber Guild, watch a goat show, meet local agricultural groups in the Children’s Zoo with interactive, educational booths, meet local artists from around the Birmingham area and much more. Children Zoo keepers will perform husbandry and training demonstrations. These demonstrations will provide visitors with an opportunity to learn about the cultural and ecological significance of the Zoo’s heritage breed collection in the Children Zoo Barn. There will also be an up-close experience with educational animals at the Schaeffer Eye Center Wildlife Show stage at 3pm. All Farm Day activities are free with paid admission to the Zoo.
