Birmingham Zoo Welcomes 600,000th Guest of 2016

Today, Thursday, December 8 at approximately 9:30am the Birmingham Zoo welcomed its 600,000th visitor of 2016, Julie Bensinger. This sets a record achievement as it passes the highest ever attendance seen at the Zoo in its 61 year history. In 2015, the Zoo set records with over 574,000 guests in attendance.

“The record growth of attendance this year is a testament to the Zoo’s ability to provide an educational and recreational experience for members and guests,” says Wally Nall III, Birmingham Zoo Board President. “We look forward to continuing to find new ways to serve the Birmingham community while striving to Inspire Passion for the Natural World.”

“On behalf of the City of Birmingham, we would like to congratulate the Birmingham Zoo on their record breaking attendance. The Zoo is a tremendous asset to the Birmingham Community, and we are thankful for the strong partnership between the city and this institution,” said Birmingham Mayor William Bell.

The Zoo celebrated this tremendous milestone by honoring the 600,000th visitor with a free Zoo Membership, and is anxiously awaiting the total count of visitors come year end.
