Birmingham Zoo Supports Community with United Way Food Drive Half-Price Admission Given for Donation

The Birmingham Zoo invites the community to give back to those in need this holiday season. On Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20, Zoo visitors can enjoy half-price admission by bringing any canned or non-perishable food item. On this particular weekend, guests who donate a food item to the United Way Food Bank will pay $8 (plus tax) for adults, $7 (plus tax) for senior citizens 65 years and older, $7 (plus tax) for military, and $5.50 (plus tax) for children 2-12 years old. Children under age two are free. The Zoo requests that visitors bring one item per person to receive the discount.

The United Way Community Food Bank of Central Alabama serves people in need by securing and storing surplus food and household items to distribute these items through local partnering service agencies. “The Birmingham Zoo continues to work to give back to the community that supports the Zoo. The annual United Way Food Drive is one of several ways that we strive to show our community support,” says Dr. William Foster, Birmingham Zoo President and CEO.
