RED DIAMOND SEA LION SPLASH SHOW

This wet, wild and fun show features the Zoo’s two sea lions, Giovanni and Farley, who were rescued from the Bay Area in California. Sit back, relax and be entertained during this seated narrated presentation. Learn all about sea lions while watching them show off their moves by performing natural behaviors. This year, you’ll get an even closer look at this aquatic species and see Gio and Farley perform back flips, high jumps and a balancing act.

 

 

LORIKEET FEEDING

The Zoo’s Lorikeet Aviary has more birds than ever! Take a walk through the aviary to be surrounded by colorful lorikeets and enjoy the sound of bird calls all around you. You’ll have the opportunity to hand-feed these beautiful birds with nectar and check out their bright colors up-close. See if you can identify each of the different species of lorikeets in the aviary.

 

 

CAMEL RIDES
Experience the thrill of taking a camel ride. Enjoy the view from the top as you’re led through the exhibit by a guide while they share their knowledge of these gentle giants with you. With the Zoo’s giraffes roaming in the distance, you’ll feel like you’re in a whole new world!

 

 

 

PELICAN FEEDING

A great way to see the Zoo’s American White Pelicans in action is to witness them eating their favorite treats near the Pelican Boardwalk. Learn interesting facts about these fascinating water birds while watching them open wide to catch fish being thrown by their keepers.

 

 

 

 

PREDATOR ZONE

This exciting experience puts you face-to-face with African lions. Watch how the keepers care for the lions during this narrated presentation. Predator Zone features a training area where zookeepers and visitors are on the same level as the animals. See behind-the-scenes training that the keepers conduct on a daily basis to care for the Zoo’s lions.

 

 

 

 

Giraffe Feeding

GIRAFFE FEEDING & KEEPER CHAT

Come experience the thrill of hand-feeding the Zoo’s four giraffes – Jalil, Willow, Keyara Jane and Zuri Ann. Be amazed as these gentle giants eat from the palm of your hand. The exhibit has a 4,000 square-foot deck that provides multiple access points for feeding and viewing the giraffes. This hands-on encounter is sure to create a memory that will last a lifetime. Learn all about these long-legged creatures from their keepers who know them best.

 

 

Sea Lion

SEA LION TRAINING DEMONSTRATION

Watch as keepers work with the Zoo’s rescued California sea lions during their daily training routine. You may see the sea lions demonstrate behaviors such as waving, balancing a ball on the tip of their noses, spinning in circles, rolling over, catching objects in their mouths, vocalizing, doing a “hand stand” on their front flippers and much more.

CAROUSEL

Take a spin on the Zoo’s animal-themed carousel. There are an array of animals to choose from – a giraffe, rhinoceros, gorilla, cheetah, frog, zebra and many more. Pick your favorite and enjoy the ride!

TRAIN RIDE

All aboard! Take a scenic ride through the Zoo on the Birmingham Zoo Express or the Red Diamond Express. You’ll learn about many of the Zoo’s animals and exhibits from the Zoo’s train conductor.
