7 FUN THINGS TO KNOW AT YOUR ZOO BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY

 

  1. Open Memorial Day

Your Birmingham Zoo will be open on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day. All veterans, active and retired military along with up to six dependent members of their family will have free admission. Hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

  1. Splash Pads and Butterfly Habitat

In time for Memorial Day, your Birmingham Zoo has added hundreds of butterflies and plants to the butterfly habitat in Alabama Wilds. Additionally, Zoo guests can enjoy seasonal favorites and special activities including the Junior League of Birmingham Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo including the splash pads will open on Saturday, May 23 and be open through the summer. Enjoy your Zoo and then cool off in the splash pads!

 

  1. Chick-Fil-A Cows Visting Saturday, May 23

Four Chick-Fil-A cows will be grazing at the Zoo on Saturday, May 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Chick-Fil-A is launching a “spotted” experience where guests can locate animals will spots (like their cows) and scan a sign to earn a free chicken sandwich. This summer promotion will last for several weeks.

 

  1. Zoo Brews Set for May 29 with 25 Breweries

Alabama’s wildest beer fest is back! Zoo Brews returns to your Birmingham Zoo on Friday, May 29 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with craft beer samples from 25 Alabama and Southeast breweries, lawn games, food vendors, ambassador animal encounters, and access to Dino Safari’s 23 life-size dinosaurs! Enjoy free Red Diamond Express Train rides. 21+ event.

 

  1. Free Dino Guide Tours Daily

Love dinosaurs? You are in luck this summer. Dino Safari runs each day the Zoo is open until Nov. 1. As part of the experience, free Dino Guide tours are held at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. These are led by a dinosaur guide who can give you lots of fun facts and insights. Dino Safari and the tours are included with Zoo admission and memberships.

 

  1. Great Summer Options for Teens 13 to 15

Conservation & Careers program gives teens ages 13–15 a behind-the-scenes look at careers in wildlife, zoos, and conservation through hands-on experiences and projects. In this weeklong experience, teens will have a chance to choose between Project LOCAL or Project GLOBAL, in order to learn about conservation efforts and career options for their future.   1. Summer Camp Options for Ages 5 to 12

Three weeks of Zoo Camp are sold out but we do have limited availability in June and July. Each week has different themes from dinosaur adventures to unique animals to exploring aquatic creatures.
