Eighth Annual Tails in the Trails Raises Funds for New Zoo Flamingo Habitat

On Friday, April 27, the Birmingham Zoo’s Junior Board hosted its eighth annual Tails in the Trails event presented by BB&T Wealth, Concepts & Associates, Inc., McGriff, Seibels & Williams, Inc., and Progress Bank. Beginning at 6:30pm, over 450 attendees were greeted by an Eurasian eagle owl, an Eastern screech owl, a Virginia opossum, a rat snake and a three-banded armadillo in the Zoo’s signature Trails of Africa area. Guests enjoyed a variety of foods provided by Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, Taziki’s Mediterranean Café, B&A Warehouse, Jimmy John’s, Kathy G & Co., Mason Dixon Bakery & Bistro, Newk’s Eatery and Taste, drinks by Cahaba Brewing Company, Fairhope Brewing Company, Yellowhammer Brewing and Back Forty Beer. A cash bar was also available and featured drinks by Altos Tequila and Cathead Vodka. In addition to the food and drinks, guests enjoyed live music performed by Nationwide Coverage.

The Birmingham Zoo’s Junior Board strives to increase Zoo membership, assist with events and promote the Zoo. The 2018 Tails in the Trails event chairs were Madison Merrill and Eve Hennessey. Net proceeds from the event will benefit a new interactive flamingo habitat at the Zoo.
