Visit the Birmingham Zoo’s Party for the Planet Celebration This Saturday

On Saturday, April 18 from 10am to 2pm, the Birmingham Zoo invites the entire community to Party for the Planet (in celebration of Earth Day). The Zoo has joined forces with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and AZA members across the nation to create the largest combined Earth Day event in North America. Party for the Planet is a FREE event with paid admission that aims to educate the public with various ways to make a difference in conservation and improve the environment on a local, national and global level. As part of the celebration, this event will be filled with activities that focus on promoting the care and conservation of the planet. Many local organizations and businesses such as, Highland School, Cahaba River Keepers, Friends of Shade Mountain, Commute Smart Birmingham, AL Mineral and Lapidary Society, DC Scientific Pest Control, Alabama Partners for Clean Air, Red Mountain Park and more will have booths set up in Trails of Africa to offer activities, crafts and giveaway items. These booths will also showcase conservation tips for children and adults to illustrate how everyday choices can benefit conservation. Visitors can also feed the lorikeets in the new Schaeffer Eye Center Lorikeet Aviary (additional cost), see the new Schaeffer Eye Center Wildlife Show, ride the new Wild Slide (additional cost), glide through Alabama Wilds on the Jane H. Brock Soaring Safari Zipline Adventure (additional cost) and more during this Earth Day celebration.

Approximately 950 animals of 230 species call the Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, zebras, rhinos and endangered species from six continents. The Birmingham Zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Regular admission is $15* for adults and $10* for senior citizens and children ages 2-12 (*Price not including tax). All Birmingham Zoo Members and children under two-years-old receive free admission.
