Bird Lovers of All Ages are Invited to the Audubon Tom Imhof Bird Walk and the Great Backyard Bird Count at the Birmingham Zoo

On February 14, 2015, the Birmingham Zoo and the Birmingham Audubon Society team up for two events that excite any bird enthusiast – The Audubon Tom Imhof Bird Walk and the Great Backyard Bird Count. The Audubon Tom Imhoff Bird Walk is a free informational guided birding trip from 8am-10am through the Birmingham Zoo for bird lovers of all ages. This two-hour walk begins at the Junior League of Birmingham – Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo gate then continues into the natural areas of Alabama Wilds. Guests should enter through the Junior League of Birmingham – Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo Breezeway gate and are encouraged to bring their binoculars, bird field guides and cameras for an experience like no other.

The Great Backyard Bird Count unites birdwatchers from all across the globe and teaches how to track bird species found in backyards, parks, and even local spaces in the Birmingham area. From 10am-2pm, guests are welcome to hear bird watching tips from Birmingham Audubon Society experts and learn how to spot various bird species. The Great Backyard Bird Count is free to members and is included with the purchase of a general admission ticket on February 14, 2015 for non-members.

Approximately 950 animals of 230 species call the Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, zebras, rhinos and endangered species from six continents. The Birmingham Zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Regular admission is $15* for adults and $10* for senior citizens and children ages 2-12 (*Price not including tax). All Birmingham Zoo Members and children under twoyears-old receive free admission.
