Escape to the Trails of Africa at ZooGala 2014 Birmingham Zoo’s Largest Fundraising Event

On Saturday, September 13 at 7pm, the Birmingham Zoo will host its largest annual fundraising event, ZooGala 2014, sponsored by IBERIABANK, a partner of the Birmingham Zoo for 10 years. This annual affair will be held in the Zoo’s signature exhibit, Trails of Africa and will feature a “Moroccan souk” theme. As guests wander through the tents with tapestries of bright colors and lanterns hanging from above, they will stroll through the souk, enjoy delicious food, drinks, entertainment and stunning décor. Cocktails will begin at 7pm and dinner will follow at 8pm. To achieve the market feel, ZooGala 2014 will move away from the traditional seated dinner format. Guests will be able to mingle with each other while sampling a wide variety of food. From 9pm -11pm, guests will enjoy drinks, desserts and dancing with “Boogie with the Beasts,” presented by the Birmingham Zoo Junior Board

ZooGala will feature live entertainment by 14 Karat Gold Dance Band, a menu presented by Kathy G. & Company and featured jewelry by Empire Diamonds. Throughout the evening, guests can look forward to animal walkabouts and special appearances from the Zoo’s African bull elephants in the Trails of Africa. Honorary chairs of this year’s event are Don and Anna James. All ZooGala proceeds directly benefit the Birmingham Zoo’s operational efforts, helping to continue its mission of “Inspiring Passion for the Natural World.” The dress code for the Moroccan-themed 2014 ZooGala event is cocktail attire.

Approximately 950 animals of 230 species call the Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, zebras, rhinos and endangered species from six continents. The Birmingham Zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Regular admission is $15* for adults and $10* for senior citizens and children ages 2-12 (*Price not including tax). All Birmingham Zoo Members and children under two-years-old receive free admission.
