Be the First to See the Rescued Bear Cubs and Participate in a ‘Bunch’ of Fun at the Birmingham Zoo for Baby Bunch Weekend

From Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1, the Birmingham community is cordially invited to a baby shower to celebrate Baby Bunch Weekend at the Birmingham Zoo. On Friday, May 30, visitors are invited to drop off a package of diapers to receive half price admission to the Zoo (only new, sealed packages of diapers will be accepted to qualify for the discount). This diaper drive will benefit First Light, a center for homeless women and children. On Friday, May 30 at 10am, Baby Bunch Weekend guests are invited to be among the first to see Birmingham Zoo’s new black bear cubs. The Zoo recently rescued two female North American black bears, Sassy and Bety. They will be temporarily on exhibit at the Predator building until the construction of their permanent home, the Barbara Ingalls Shook Black Bear Trail, is finished.

From Saturday, May 31 through Sunday, June 1, bring the entire family to meet members of The Baby Bunch, enjoy face paintings courtesy of Children’s of Alabama, baby-themed animal enrichments, educational keeper chats, Get Rhythm® Drum Circle and much more. The Baby Bunch includes an ostrich, reticulated giraffe, Sumatran orangutan, two North American black bears, two giant river otters, two red pandas and nine Dwarf Nigerian goats. Families and guests can have fun spotting the various members of The Baby Bunch throughout the Zoo.

The public can also enjoy the Jane H. Brock Soaring Safari Zipline Adventure* during Baby Bunch Weekend. Guests of all ages can soar 20 feet above ground level as they glide on the zipline through the treetops of the Alabama Wilds. To learn more about the members of The Baby Bunch and how to book an adventure on the new zipline, please visit birminghamzoo.com.

* The cost to zip is $12 (plus tax) for members or $15 (plus tax) for non-members, not including the purchase of a regular priced admission ticket.

Approximately 950 animals of 230 species call the Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, zebras, rhinos and endangered species from six continents. The Birmingham Zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Regular admission is $15* for adults and $10* for senior citizens and children ages 2-12 (*Price not including tax).
