The Birmingham Zoo Celebrates Mother’s Day Weekend

As part of International Orangutan Mothers Awareness Day on Saturday, May 10, the Zoo will pay tribute to orangutan mothers around the world. Because of the growing demand for palm oil, more and more orangutan mothers are being killed every year. On this day, visitors of all ages are invited to enjoy an animal enrichment, keeper chats and craft activities in the Primate Building from 10am to 3pm to support this important cause.

On Sunday, May 11, mothers can enjoy free admission to the Birmingham Zoo with the purchase of a full-price child’s admission ticket (offer exclusive only on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11). Guests can take a spin on the carousel, feed the giraffes at the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter (additional cost), see the four African bull elephants, visit Granny’s Butterfly Garden and so much more. Guests of all ages are also invited to visit the Zoo’s youngest animals in “The Baby Bunch” and then take an aerial journey on the Jane H. Brock Soaring Safari Zipline Adventure.* Families are invited to create memories that will last a lifetime at the Birmingham Zoo on Mother’s Day weekend. For more information on Mother’s Day weekend events or the new attractions, please visit birminghamzoo.com.

*The cost to zip is $20 (plus tax) for members or $25 (plus tax) for non-members, not including the purchase of a regular priced admission ticket.
