The Birmingham Zoo invites the community to give back to those in need this holiday season. On Saturday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 24th, Zoo visitors can enjoy half-price admission by bringing any canned or non-perishable food item. On this particular weekend, guests who donate a food item to the United Way Community Food Bank will pay $7 (plus tax) for adults, $4.50 (plus tax) for senior citizens 65 years and older, and $4.50 (plus tax) for children 2-12 years old. Children under 2-years-old are free. The Zoo requests that visitors bring one item per person to receive the discount.
The United Way Community Food Bank of Central Alabama serves people in need by securing and storing surplus food and household items to distribute these items through local partnering service agencies. “This is just one of the many ways that the Zoo gives back to the community that has supported the Zoo for so many years,” says Dr. William Foster, Birmingham Zoo President and CEO.
