Jenine Bastas
Jenine Bastas has served as a Birmingham
Zoo volunteer for 18 years, logging a total
of more than 2,600 volunteer hours. While
volunteering, Jenine enjoys working with
the Zoo’s Wildlife Show crew, engaging in
animal walkabouts at events, assisting with
giraffe feedings and helping with Zoo to You
programs. These programs include live animals
and hands-on classroom visits conducted by
the Zoo’s professional staff of interpreters,
educators and docents. Jenine loves to share
her passion for the natural world with the
visitors in different areas of the Zoo. She says,

Roddy McKinney and Family
The Birmingham Zoo greatly values its friends, guests, volunteers,
members and donors who have partnered with the Zoo to become
zoological leaders in serving our community.
Roddy McKinney has exhibited great pride in helping the
Birmingham Zoo accomplish this mission. A veteran of the United
States Air Force, Roddy is the founder and owner of McKinney
Capital, an organization that provides partnerships and resources
to those looking to grow their companies. With more than 40 years
of entrepreneurial and small business experience, Roddy’s portfolio
at McKinney Capital includes local companies such as Satellites
Unlimited, Inc. and Landscape Workshop. Combined, these
companies total 1,200 employees in the Southeast. Roddy and his
wife, Janice, have two sons, Danny and Lee, who share his passion
for the family business and in the philanthropic community.
In sharing his love of family and being a grandparent, Roddy has
partnered with the Birmingham Zoo in fulfilling its mission.

from the Children’s of Alabama at the Birmingham Zoo. Roddy
McKinney and his family understand the Zoo’s vision and continue
