Eric Carle is the author and illustrator of more than 70 books that have inspired generations of young readers from around the world. His unique artwork and innovative approach to storytelling introduced children to an array of animals and inspired them to connect with the natural world from a very early age. In honor of Eric Carle, the Birmingham Zoo and our partners at Penguin Young Reader are extending The Very Hungry Caterpillar Storywalk through Alabama Wilds until the end of August! This special exhibit re-creates the picture book through a larger-than-life storywalk and gives families the opportunity to experience the beloved classic together. Since its publication in 1969, The Very Hungry Caterpillar has become a bookshelf staple in homes and classrooms with more than 54 million copies sold globally and published in over 70 languages. Today, every 30 seconds, somewhere in the world, a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is sold! As we honor Eric Carle’s legacy, we are certain that his books will inspire future conservationists for generations to come!
*Storywalk experience ends on Sunday, August 29, and is included in the price of general admission for the day and free for Zoo Members.
