Birmingham Zoo Celebrates City of Birmingham’s 150th Anniversary

Guests Receive Discounted Admission to the Zoo on July 16-18

In celebration of the City of Birmingham’s 150th anniversary, the Birmingham Zoo will be offering a $5 off discount on general admission prices, online and onsite, during the weekend of Friday, July 16 through Sunday, July 18. The Zoo is a proud partner of the City’s kick-off event, Experience Birmingham and welcomes residents to come and enjoy fun with the animals at their Zoo!

Incorporated on Dec. 19, 1871, Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama and the seat of Jefferson County. Residents are encouraged to discover or rediscover what the Magic City has to offer – from sightseeing, attractions, restaurants, and staple businesses. Birmingham is filled with wonderful family-friendly venues and activities. Guests to the Zoo can feed the giraffes and lorikeets, take a ride on the Red Diamond Express Train, and go for a spin on the Protective Life Carousel. Kids will love water play and cooling off at the Splash Pads.

Guests can purchase discounted admission and Members can reserve tickets online at birminghamzoo.com before visiting. The Red Diamond Express Train and Protective Life Carousel are operating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase onsite at each ride location. Splash Pads are on and operating from 9 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. Giraffe feedings are open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or until sold out. Giraffe feeding tickets are sold onsite at the Giraffe Outpost Gift Shop for $3.95 per person entering the platform. All visitors are required to wear face masks on the Giraffe platform and to participate in feedings. Lorikeet feedings are $3.95 plus tax at the Aviary Tiki Hut Gift Shop and will be available on weekends only, Saturday and Sunday during the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Daily activities and animal encounters at the Zoo are weather dependent.

The Predator and South America/Primate buildings are open for visitors to see indoor animal habitats in these areas as they travel the one-way path through the Zoo. All visitors are strongly encouraged to properly wear face masks inside buildings and outside when social distancing cannot be maintained. For the health and safety of our staff, guests, and animals, the Zoo will continue to monitor and evaluate our operations and modify our procedures as needed.
