The Birmingham Zoo is pleased to announce that Dr. Stephanie Braccini Slade, PhD has joined the Birmingham Zoo team as the Vice President of Living Collections. This position is responsible for overseeing habitat design, animal health and welfare, conservation, horticulture and general operations.
Dr. Slade comes to the Zoo with over 15 years of experience working in Zoos, most previously as the Curator of Mammals at Zoo Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. She brings experience in animal behavior research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, training and enrichment programming and conservation project management. In addition, Dr. Slade has a M.A. in Experimental Psychology and a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Psychology, is a published author, and led a TED Talk on Why Animals in Zoos Need Choice.
