In honor of our nation’s birthday, all veterans, active and retired military and their dependents will receive free admission to the Birmingham Zoo on July 1, 2, 3 and 4 with valid military identification. The Birmingham Zoo invites the community to come out for Fourth of July weekend to enjoy the limited time Avian Adventure Free-Flight Bird Show at the Schaeffer Eye Center Wildlife Stage, going on daily through July 4 at 11am, and the afternoon bird walk at 2:30pm. This special program is being presented by Animal Behavior and Conservation Connections, and features an up-close look at unique and charismatic bird species exhibiting natural behaviors in dynamic ways. Whether swooping just inches overhead or perched gracefully for an exquisite photo, birds including colorful macaws, hornbills, owls and more, will entertain guests with their beauty and trained behaviors.
The fun continues with the Red Diamond Sea Lion Show, which features an even closer look at this aquatic species and showcases new behaviors from the Zoo’s California sea lions. Other activities include feeding the giraffes at the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter*, learning about the African bull elephants, getting up close with African lions at Predator Zone, cooling off in the Splash Pads and much more. *Additional cost
The Birmingham Zoo is currently open daily from 9am to 5pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9am to 7pm for extended summer hours on Saturday and Sunday.
