On Saturday, February 18, 2017, the Birmingham Zoo and the Birmingham Audubon Society team up for two events sure to excite any bird enthusiast – The Tom Imhof Memorial Audubon Bird Walk and the Great Backyard Bird Count. The Tom Imhof Memorial Audubon Bird Walk is a free informational guided birding trip from 8am-10am through the Birmingham Zoo for bird lovers of all ages. This two-hour walk begins at the Birmingham Zoo ticket booth entrance and continues into the natural areas of Alabama Wilds in the Junior League of Birmingham – Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo. Guests are encouraged to bring their binoculars, bird field guides and cameras for an experience like no other.
The second event, the Great Backyard Bird Count, unites birdwatchers from all across the globe and teaches how to track bird species found in backyards, parks, and even local spaces in the Birmingham area. From 10am-2pm, guests are welcome to hear bird watching tips from Birmingham Audubon Society experts and learn how to spot various bird species. The Great Backyard Bird Count is free to members and is included with the purchase of a general admission ticket on February 18, 2017 for non-members.
