The Birmingham Zoo celebrates Earth Day with Party for the Planet on Saturday, April 20th from 10am to 3pm. The Zoo joins forces with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to help people all over the world discover how to make a difference in conservation and improve the environment on a local, national and global level. As part of the celebration, this event will be filled with activities, games and wildlife presentations promoting the care and conservation of our planet.
Many local organizations will have exhibits throughout the Zoo offering activities and giveaway items such as recycling art, coloring books with soy crayons, goodie bags for picking up pet waste, fossils and brewed coffee samples (for adults only). All exhibits will showcase conservation tips for children and adults such as learning how to keep Alabama skies blue, how coffee beans grow and recycle back to earth, and how everyday choices from planting to choosing the best treats for pets benefit conservation. Kids can even make a special conservation-related craft to learn all about Planet Earth from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm.
The Zoo’s new Dino Discovery exhibit, featuring 15 life-size animatronic dinosaurs, teaches guests about the importance of conserving today’s animals to keep them from becoming extinct. Guests can also enjoy special shows and educational animal demonstrations like the Red Diamond Sea Lion Splash Show, Lorikeet Aviary, Predator Zone, Keeper Chats, Wildlife Shows and much more throughout the day. Party for the Planet activities are included with the price of admission to the Zoo.
