The Birmingham Zoo Education Department has home school science classes for children in 1st-12th grade. We also offer home school art classes and day classes for 2nd-12th grades.

Pre-registration and payment are required for all programs.

If you have a change of plans, please call the education department as soon as you know you need to cancel. Refunds must be requested 24 hours in advance of the class. We will be unable to give any refunds once the deadline has passed.

The parent or guardian must check students in and out of class. Students carpooling with other adults must have a release form signed by the parent. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

Home School Science Classes

The Birmingham Zoo Education Department has home school science classes for children in 1st-12th grade. Classes consist of animal visits, class discussions, in-class work, activities, labs, and homework. Resources and references will be made available for the different classes. Some class materials will be sent home to aid students. The classes are designed to build on one another, but students are not required to attend all topics.

1st - 2nd Grade Science Classes

Home School Art Classes

Students will learn to develop basic drawing and painting skills with animals as their centerpiece. Live animals may be brought to the classroom or students may go see animals on exhibit.

2nd-6th grade Science Classes:

It includes a hamburger, hot dog, or peanut butter & jelly sandwich with chips and a drink. Students may also bring their own lunch. A refrigerator is available. Pre-registration is required.
