Camp Details:

Monday: Line Drawing Water Mammals
After observing water mammals like otters, beavers and sea lions, students will experiment with different types of line- thick, thin, curvy, curly, etc. They will practice drawing techniques such as; hatching, cross hatching, and stippling. Incorporating all of these skills, they will create their own detailed and ink drawing of their favorite water mammal.

Tuesday: Watercolor Painted birds
Students will explore the zoo and sketch various birds. Back in the classroom, students will practice different watercolor techniques. They will use these new techniques to paint their own image of a bird.

Wednesday: Acrylic Painted Predators
Students will explore the predator building and sketch animals exhibited there. Back in the classroom, students will experiment mixing primary colors of acrylic paint into secondary and tertiary (yellow-green, blue-violet) colors. They will use these colors to paint their own image of a predator.

Thursday: Print Making Reptiles
Students will study reptiles, examining snakes, lizards, turtles and alligators throughout the zoo. They will practice print making techniques, creating their own prints of reptile.

Friday: Tempera Painted Savanna Animals
Students will observe Savannah Animals, such as; giraffes, ostrich and zebra. They will notice how the color of many animals, like gazelles and Kudu, are not the bright hues of color found in the palate of primary and secondary colors. They will experiment creating more natural colors by adding a small amount of a complementary color. Students will paint their own image of a savanna animal using these more natural colors of tempera paint.
