The Birmingham Zoo is seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our team as Director of Development. This high profile position is responsible for directing and coordinating fund raising efforts for both operational and capital support. Bachelors or Masters degree with at least 7 years experience in fund raising or equivalent combination of education/experience. Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. RESPONSIBILITY
Assigned to one of a variety of revenue areas, the Cashier is responsible for providing fast, friendly service to our guests while following proper cash handling procedures. Cashiers are also responsible for daily cleaning of the strollers, restocking of gift shop merchandise and providing information to zoo visitors.
DUTIES

Greets all visitors with a smile and offers assistance.

Communicates clearly and in a friendly manner.

Insures accuracy of transaction and provides merchandise to visitor and communicates appreciation for their business.
- Responsible for following cash handling and asset protection policies and requirements.
- Responsible for all checklists associated with the cashier position.
- Utilizes computer in the preparation and use of daily cash worksheet and balancing at the end of each day.
- Fills in for other visitor services personnel as needed and directed.
- Responsible for the cleaning and organizing of assigned areas.
- Works as a team player to help others complete their objectives as needed.
- Responsible for following all Zoo sanitation standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Time Frame: Seasonal, June 2nd until August 8th, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. We are looking for teachers for aftercare hours (11:30 am to 5:30 pm) and for the 4th of July camp week (Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 1 pm). Teacher orientation is required.
Summary
This position is from June 6th until August 2nd from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Zoofari teacher is responsible for insuring that the day-to-day operation of their class at the Zoo’s summer camp runs smoothly. The Zoofari teacher will be responsible for having their classroom ready with supplies. The teachers will have their teaching plan for the day ready.
Responsibilities
-Participates in the teaching of the Zoofari daily schedules.
-Monitors and distributes Zoofari Supplies to the campers in their class
-Works with the Zoofari Camp Director and Intern in managing camp class activities to ensure that their class schedule runs smoothly.
-Ensures that classroom supplies are on hand and ready for dispersal.
-Checks daily supplies for their classroom to ensure all supplies are present.
-Works with other departments to incorporate educational messages in all areas of the facility.
-Follows the Zoo’s educational message.
-Communicates with parents as needed.
-Informs the Zoofari Intern and Camp Director of any problems.
-Implements the daily class and activity schedule.
-Checks the daily roster to ensure the students are present and turns this in to the Intern.
-Coordinates with other departments to provide resources needed to successfully complete their education programs.
-Attend Zoofari camp orientation.
-Completes administrative paperwork as needed/directed.

Junior or Senior College Student majoring in Education/Biology/Zoology

Responsibilties
The Zoo Services host or hostess is responsible for the cleanliness of the grounds, upkeep of the restrooms, trash collection, parking lot sweeping, and set up crew for various group sales events and special events.
Duties
- Must learn and display competency on the safe and proper use of all cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Nightly cleaning of all public restrooms, picnic area, and trash pick up.
- Daily cleaning of restrooms and zoo grounds.
- Morning prep of zoo grounds for opening.
- Possible assignment as Children’s Zoo Monitor to make sure that children are playing safely.
- Assists on set up of zoo special events; Boo at the Zoo and ZooLight Safari.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Degree or GED.

Valid Driver’s License.

- Flexibility and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet frequent deadlines.

This key position is responsible for the primary daily husbandry activities of the animal collection. Collectively, with other zoo employees, these activities will assist in presenting to the public an environment that is educational and serves to further the conservation efforts in a humane and respectful manner.
Responsibilities:
• Clean and maintain animal exhibits, including the use of chemical agents and special tools to assure the health and safety of the animals.
• Evaluate and prepare assigned animal diets and consult with the Zoological Manager based on the condition of the animal, weather and temperature influence, and any other special consideration relating to the species or individual animal.
• Make observations regarding assigned animals (Animal Observation Program) including: general activity, interaction with other animals, fecal matter and reproductive behavior.
• Assist the Zoo Veterinarian in the administering of prescribed medication.
• Communicate problems or concerns as it relates to the collection, staff or public, to the Zoological Manager, Curator or member of Senior Staff.
• Perform manual labor to include: cleaning exhibits of animal waste and other unwanted materials, moving feed bags and moving animals.
• Interact with Zoo visitors concerning Zoo operations, education and conservation.
• Follow established protocol unless directed by a supervisor to deviate from that protocol.
• Prepare daily reports as required.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma/GED – College degree preferred, but not required.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Must have valid drivers license.
• Must have good observational and record keeping skills.
• Must have the ability to work as a team member and to interact with the visitors in a positive manner.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
